Privacy Policy
Smalljoy is an iPhone app for parents to save the little things their children say and do. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: your moments stay on your phone, we don’t run servers that store them, and we can’t see them.
Smalljoy is made by FireUp Lab, LLC (“we”, “us”). If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].
1. What you put into Smalljoy
When you use Smalljoy you may add:
-
Your children’s names, birthdays, and the avatar you pick for them
-
Moments: written notes, titles, and dates
-
Voice recordings, photos, and videos you choose to attach
This information is stored on your iPhone, inside the app. It is not sent to us, and we have no way to access it.
Photos and videos you attach are copied into the app from the photo picker. Smalljoy does not ask for access to your whole photo library.
2. Microphone and speech recognition
Smalljoy uses the microphone only while you are recording a moment. The recording is saved on your phone.
To turn your words into text, Smalljoy uses Apple’s speech recognition and requires it to run on your device. If on-device recognition isn’t available for your language, Smalljoy doesn’t transcribe; your recording is still saved and you can type the words yourself. Apple’s standard permission message mentions that speech data may be sent to Apple; Smalljoy is built so that transcription happens on the phone instead.
3. Family sharing (optional)
If you choose to share your family’s moments with another person, such as your partner, Smalljoy uses Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit). Shared moments, photos, recordings, and videos are stored in the iCloud account of the person who started sharing, and are available to the people they invite. This storage counts against that person’s iCloud storage.
We do not have access to your iCloud data. Apple’s privacy policy applies to data stored in iCloud: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
You can stop sharing at any time in the app. People you remove lose access the next time their app updates.
4. Subscriptions and purchases
Payments are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, name, or Apple Account email.
We use RevenueCat, a subscription service, to check whether you have an active trial or subscription. RevenueCat receives:
-
A random identifier created for your installation of the app (not your name or email)
-
Your purchase and subscription history for Smalljoy (for example, which plan, when it started, and when it renews)
-
Basic technical information such as device model, iOS version, app version, and your country or region (which may be derived from your IP address)
RevenueCat does not receive your moments, your children’s information, or anything you write or record. RevenueCat’s privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
5. Notifications
If you turn on reminders, Smalljoy schedules them on your phone. This includes the evening reminder and a reminder before a free trial ends. Scheduling them sends nothing to us.
6. What we don’t do
-
No advertising
-
No analytics or tracking tools
-
No selling or renting of your information
-
No tracking you across other apps or websites
If you have chosen in your iPhone settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. You can turn this off in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
7. Children
Smalljoy is made for parents and other adult caregivers. It is not directed at children, and children should not use it to create an account or make purchases. Information about children in Smalljoy is added by their parent or caregiver and stays on the parent’s phone (or in their iCloud, if they use family sharing).
8. Keeping and deleting your information
-
You can delete any moment or child profile in the app.
-
Deleting the app deletes everything stored in it on that phone. Moments that exist only on your phone cannot be recovered after the app is deleted, so keep that in mind.
-
Shared family data stays in the iCloud account of the person who started sharing until they delete it or stop sharing. iCloud data can also be managed in Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
-
To ask us to delete the subscription records RevenueCat holds for your installation, email us at [email protected]. Apple keeps its own purchase records, which we can’t delete.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU, UK, or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information about you, and to object to certain uses. Because we don’t hold your moments, most of your information is already under your control on your phone. For anything else, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll respond within 30 days.
10. Security
Your moments are protected by your iPhone’s own security, including your passcode and device encryption. Shared data is protected by Apple’s iCloud security.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
